Maritime Museum
This museum is is located at the Barra Pagoda Square close to the Sea. The Museum also has sailing ship anchored in the inner Harbor. This square is dedicated to the Taoist goddess "A-MA") , the goddess believed to be the protector of fisherman. Thee is also a little theatre here which tells the story of this Goddess in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.. This square is also believed to be where the Portuguese landed for the first time. At this time, this location was called "AMAGAO", it is believed where the name Macau came from.
The first floor displays the life of the Macau fisherman, whereby several different kinds of ships are displayed, the different varieties of fish caught and a variety of different fishing methods are also displayed. The museum also breaks down the different inventions by the Portuguese such as the cross-staff, dial and astrolabe and the ones invented by Chinese which include the compass, side compass and balanced ships wheel . In addition a typical house of a fisherman is displayed where one can see the typical lifestyle of a fisherman where post and and pre fishing activities are shown.
The second floor displays several themes which include Transport and Technology. The displays include include an an aquarium which displays the harbor waters, the riverbed of the area, and the coral reef and a also a display showing the remains of sunken ship in Macau. Finally models of the ships currently used for transport to Macau which include the currently in use, such as the Jetfoil.

Opening hours: From 10 am. to 6.pm (with sale closings after 5.30 p.m)
Ages from 10 to 18: 5 Patacas (this is from Monday to Saturday) and 3 patacas (on Sunday)
18 to 65 : 10 Patacas (Monday to Saturday) and 5 Patacas (on Sunday)
Those Under 10 years and older than 65 are free of charge.
